나는 생명의 현상 The Body in Bloom
 
 내가 애쓰지 않아도 숨은 절로 쉬어진다.
 내가 신경 쓰지 않아도 심장은 알아서 뛴다.
 내 몸은 무질서 속에서도 질서를 유지하고
 변화 가운데서도 안정을 창조하며
 완벽한 순환과 리듬과 균형을 보여준다.
 내 몸은 생명이 스스로 알아서 노니는 놀이터이다.
 
 My breathing happens on its own, though I don’t even try.
 My heart knows when to beat, though I don’t worry about
 it. My body maintains order even amid disorder, creates
 stability even amid change, and exhibits perfect circulation,
 rhythm, and balance. My body is a playground where life
 takes a stroll.
   

공기를 통해 우리의 코로 하늘이 들어오고
 음식을 통해 우리의 입으로 땅이 들어온다.
 우리는 하늘과 땅에 뿌리를 박고 피어난
 한 송이 아름다운 꽃이다.
 마치 음극과 양극이 만나 밝은 불빛을 만들어내듯이
 우리의 생명은 이렇게 천지간의 합작으로
 환히 피어나 있다.
 
 내가 나의 생명을 가지고 있는 것이 아니라
 천지가 함께 창조한 생명이 나를 통해
 스스로를 표현하고 있다.

Heaven enters us, by way of our noses, through air, and
 earth enters us, by way of our mouths, through food.
 We are beautiful flowers blooming, rooted in heaven
 and earth. Just as positive and negative poles meet to
 create bright light, so, too, our lives shine brightly with
 a light heaven and earth create together.
 
 I don’t have a life of my own; life created by heaven
 and earth together expresses itself through me.
 
 내 몸은 생명이 피워낸 한 송이 꽃이요,
 생명이 빚어낸 하나의 현상이다. 
 My body is a flower brought into bloom
 by life, a phenomenon caused by life.
 
 
 생명의 근원이 천지에 있음을 아는 사람은
 ‘너와 내가 하나’라는 말의 진의를 가슴 깊이 깨닫게 된다.
 
 방금 내 몸속에 들어와 더운 피를 타고 흐르던 공기가
 바로 옆 사람의 가슴으로 흘러 들어간다.
 며칠 전 한 그루의 토마토가 땅속에서 끌어올린 물이
 지금 내 몸속에 들어와 있다.

Those who know that the source of life is found in
 heaven and earth realize deep within their hearts the
 true meaning of the words “You and I are one.”
 Air that entered my body a moment ago and flowed
 through my warm blood now flows into the chest of the
 person beside me. Water brought up from the ground
 by a tomato a few days ago is now in my body.
 
 생명 있는 모든 것들은
 천지를 통해 하나로 연결되어 있다. 

All living things are connected as one
 through heaven and earth.
 
 
 하늘과 땅이 있어 우리의 생명이 유지된다는 것을 
 관념이 아니라 체험을 통해 깨달은 사람은 
 하늘과 땅의 마음을 아프게 하는 일을 할 수 없다.

Those who, through direct experience rather than
 ideas, realize that our lives are maintained by heaven
 and earth cannot do things that hurt heaven and earth.
