This morning, coldest this winter at 27 degrees F , Dan came to play ping pong as usual.
We played in the unheated barn, very hard, panting and sweating hard. I took off all my shirts
as usual. I had to put on my head cloth band to protect my eye glasses from sweats. I asked him how well we played compared with the youtube players. His answer was about
60%; he did not play well today, maybe because he skipped a few days over holidays.
We played 1 hour. My wife came to the barn, and she and I played about another hour after Dan left. As usual, we played faster with longer shots. I asked her the same question to
my wife, who said about 85 - 90%. My own answer? About 87 - 95%.
I talk a lot about our table tennis play with many good reasons. It is one of the safest, most
enjoyable ( hence easy to make it a habit), costs almost nothing ( no driving needed), and
most efficient exercise, aerobic as well as anaerobic if you play hard and fast. Bad weather
with rain, snow, or wind does not stop us. Night or day does not matter; we use lights.
Dr. Dan Amen said ping pong is the best exercise for brain health as well. And I know and
experience brain functioning improves; we have been playing about 10 years now.
Our local group grew from my wife and me, including now, Dan, Ron, Jan, Art 2 and Art 3.
