A 52-year-old Los Angeles woman who was driving alone in a 2011 Toyota Corolla died at a hospital, the CHP reported. She was not wearing a safety restraint, according to the CHP.
The woman’s name was withheld pending notification of relatives.
Stanley Yang, 26, of Glendale was driving a 2003 Mercedes-Benz that the CHP contends was going too fast for the changing traffic conditions when it struck the rear of the victim’s car, which was disabled and stopped in the No. 4 lane.
The woman suffered fatal blunt force trauma injuries, according to the CHP.
The Mercedes continued north and struck the rear of a 2014 Kia Optima that was stopped on the right shoulder, the CHP reported.
Neither the Optima’s driver, an 18-year-old Encino man, nor its sole passenger, a 17-year-old boy from Woodland Hills, were injured.
Yang, who was not injured, was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with alcohol intoxication, according to the CHP. He was being held on $100,000 bail with an appearance at the Airport courthouse scheduled for Monday, according to the Sheriff’s Inmate Information Center.
The Mercedes was carrying two passengers, a 27-year-old Burbank man and a 25-year-old Arcadia woman, who were not injured.
The CHP issued a SigAlert about 12:30 a.m., closing the two right lanes of the 405, which were reopened around 2 a.m.
