Writing a catchy title.
Writing a good title is as important as the concluding remarks,
leaving the readers the satisfactions of a full circle of understanding, it seems. The first one is tougher to make; short, catchy, tone, nuance... all have to be in there.
Maureen Dowd's "Summers of our discontent" seems to have all those;
1. As Han Baram pointed out, this year's summer has a lot of
discontent like hot and humid days, wild fires, bad crops, killing fields in Middle East, worsening economy,....
2. As Alanga's direct, literal, and correct interpretation of
"of" as apposition.
3. Borrowing a well-known title of "Winter of our discontent"
by famous writer, John Steinbeck.
4. Setting the tone of hating, detesting cool elitist, Larry
Summers.
5. Including the bare minimum 4 words, compressed.
As Han Baram points out, Maureen seems an expert on words play.
And I like it precisely because it is stimulating, creative fun
play, drawing you toward her cute play like Son Yeon-Jae, Korean rhythmic gymnast with her ball,ribbon,loop, ....
