Eyes and ears
Here is another translation with thoughts of mine on the monk's words from the earlier nahyun kim's story.
"If you don't see even if you have eyes, it's as if you don't have them.
If you don't hear even if you have ears, it's also as if you don't have them."
We do see and hear(smell, taste, too) similarly but with differences. We all have different filters, made of DNA, environment, foods, cultures, parents, neuroses, etc.
So, our perceptions are bound to be different. Eagles see better. Wolves hear better, bears and dogs smell better.
That's why diversity is better; we can figure out reality better
by taking advantage of better qualities of others' keener observations of reality. That's my way of synthesizing of others' valuable contributions. Another quote I like is "the
highest creativity is to sculpt your own life".
