If you trying to get Nationality of Korea? Here are some advices for You!

First. Check requirements of Nationality Acquisition

There are 2 types of Nationality Acquisition.

Type 1. Generalized naturalization

  1. 1..
  2. Those who have lived in Korea for more than 5 years


  1. 2. Where the father or mother was a national of Korea, who was born in Korea, the father or mother was born in Korea, and a foreigner who has been adopted by both Korean nationals after adulthood has lived for more than three years.


  1. 3. Have been married for two years or more after being married to a Korean citizen, or have been married for three or more years after being married;
  2. The father or mother is a national of the Republic of Korea

*If the father or mother is a naturalized child, the child may apply for a special naturalization permit regardless of age, marital status, or length of stay in Korea (except for those who have been adopted after maturity).

  1. 4. If you have special merit in Korea
  2. If you are recognized as contributing to the development of the Republic of Korea as a person with excellent abilities


Type 2. Marriage naturalization

  1. 1. If you have lived in Korea for more than 2 years while you are married to a national spouse


  1. 2. 3 years after marrying the spouse and have been married for more than 1 year


  1. 3. A person who has been married to a Korean who has not been able to live a normal marriage without the death, disappearance or other fault of his / her spouse. And have met the period of residence in subparagraphs 1 or 2. 


  1. 4. A person who is raising or is required to raise a minor child born by marriage with a Korean spouse and has met the period of stay in subparagraphs 1 or 2.


Second. If you meet the above requirements, you should prepare the documents to be submitted.

  1. 1. Application for Naturalization
  2. Original copy of passport, home identity card


  1. 2. Criminal Record Certificate of home country (*Notarized)


  1. 3. 1 copy of Korean spouse's family relationship certificate, basic certificate, marriage relationship certificate, and resident registration


  1. 4. If you gave birth to a child during marriage, please submit a certificate of family relations in the name of your child.


  1. 5. Documents certifying that you or a family member living together is capable of maintaining a living 
  2. 6. Pledge







  3. 7. Family Relations Notice and Proof of Family Relations in home Country (*Attach Korean Translation)
