Apostille & Luxembourg: Apostille From Luxembourg

2020.08.24

Hi, this is KICPC

Following the last posting on criminal record certificate from Luxembourg,
today I am going to introduce you how to get apostille on Luxembourg documents further!
This is because when living in Luxembourg for long not just criminal record certificate but also getting apostille on other documents might be needed frequently.

Let’s take a look!

As I told you on the last posting, the criminal record certificate from Luxembourg itself cannot be in effect if it is to be used in a foreign country. So are other documents from Luxembourg.
All Luxembourg documents need to be processed a bit before it is actually used in foreign countries.

The processes are as follows.

First step is issue what you need!

To make it usable in a recipient country either, translate all the French in the Luxembourg document into the language that where recipient country uses. To successfully notarized, the document should be translated by a professional translator. Unless, you’ll be denied when notarized.

Then notarize the translation to confirm whether the translation matches with the original and is done appropriately. Through this step, you can secure the reliability of the translation.
Also, this process should be left with a professional notary lawyer.

The last step is certification which is also known as legalization and authentication.
In this step, you obtain certification on the document to confirm the document is legal and genuine and the ways to achieve this are apostille and embassy attestation, as you can check in the picture above.

Apostille indicates a certification from the authority with eligibility of an issuing country, Luxembourg in this posting. This is only available between the countries which both agree to Hague Convention abolishing the requirement of legalization for foreign documents. Thankfully, Luxembourg is a member of the Convention so if a recipient country does join then you do apostille to legalize.

On the other hand, embassy attestation is getting a reconfirmation on the certification above from a receiving country. Thus embassy attestation is a bit more complicated than apostille.
You get embassy attestation when either one party doesn’t agree to Hague Convention.
Thus when a receiving country doesn’t join, you have no choice but to get embassy attestation.

Since the focus of today’s posting is on apostille, let’s take a closer look on apostille.
As we checked, apostille is easier and faster than embassy attestation. But there is one thing you should never forget when it comes to apostille.

Don’t forget to get apostille before you leave Luxembourg!

The document can only be apostilled certified by the authority of issuing country. Thus
you can’t get apostille outside of Luxembourg!
The only way to get apostille in this case is to get it through third party.
However, finding the right person to ask for is difficult and also writing a power of attorney, translating, notarizing and also getting apostille on this document is too complicated and cost you a lot of time.

. . . . .

Can you handle it all by yourself for real for real...?
