[Essay of My Heart]

The Coexistence of Nature and Humanity

One early summer afternoon, as a sudden heavy shower poured down fiercely, I happened to walk toward the garage and discovered a small baby bird crouched in front of the garage door. The rain was too heavy, and the little creature

had taken temporary shelter there.

Out of curiosity, I took a photo, but the bird only blinked and made no attempt to move. Even as I opened the garage

to go inside, entered, and shut the door—creating a considerable noise in the process, the bird remained motionless,

undisturbed by the commotion.

Sometime later, curiosity led me to step outside again, only to find that the baby bird had vanished. I felt a sense of

emptiness, along with concern about what might have happened to it. In the unpredictable early summer weather,

with the rain coming and going, I worried about its safety. I could only hope it had returned to the warm embrace of

its mother and was now safe.

Another bird story unfolded over the past few days. A pair of parent birds began building a nest atop the light fixture

next to the back door of our house. Each morning, I would find scattered twigs and bits of nesting material on the

ground—evidence of their industrious efforts—and the nest gradually began to take shape. For a few days, I

committed the small "crime" of dismantling the nest each morning, but today, I finally decided to accept the situation as it was. It seemed that the birds, desperate to find a place for their soon-to-hatch eggs, were pouring all their efforts

into building a new home.

What amazed me was the parent bird’s architectural skill—within less than a day, it had constructed a beautiful, sturdy nest. Before writing this piece, I went to check it again, and indeed, a complete birdhouse now sat gracefully atop the

light fixture.

At my home, birds of various kinds have built their nests and live together in harmony. I sometimes wonder if they,

too, recognize that we, the homeowners, do not use pesticides or chemical insecticides and instead maintain the

garden and land through organic, eco-friendly practices. After all, whether humans, animals, or plants, who would

prefer a habitat polluted with toxins?

As summer passes and autumn and winter arrive, the empty nests left behind become clearly visible among the trees—quiet reminders of life once present. Thinking that the birds will surely return in spring, I gently peer into these

vacant nests, one by one.

Recently, I came across a YouTube video of a volunteer in a small, remote fishing village in Guatemala, Central

America. The video showed the villagers working together, generation after generation, to help hatch baby sea turtles and guide them safely to the ocean. It is said that the chance of a hatchling surviving in the wild sea is about one in a

thousand. These small acts of coexistence between humans and nature, I believe, will one day bear great fruit,

contributing to a more desirable ecological environment for humanity. Moreover, such efforts can serve as valuable

educational examples for the younger generation.

From time to time, I quietly envision a world where nature and humanity coexist peacefully in harmony. To make that dream a reality, I gently suggest that each of us needs the determination and action to begin practicing small acts—

within the scope of our own capabilities—that contribute to this shared future.
